KickStart Therapy is built around children, and that remains the centre of our practice. Alongside that, we provide therapy for adults of all ages at our Brampton and Mississauga clinics — focused on speech, swallowing, post-accident and post-stroke rehabilitation, and refugee health support.

Swallowing difficulty in adults can follow a stroke, a neurological condition, a surgical procedure, or other medical changes.
We assess how swallowing is functioning, identify where the difficulty sits in the swallow sequence, and develop a therapy plan that may include posture and positioning strategies, exercises, and food-texture guidance.

If you have been in a motor vehicle accident and are experiencing speech, swallowing, communication, or cognitive-communication difficulties as a result, we can provide therapy as part of your recovery plan.
We work with your treatment team and, in many cases, directly with your auto insurance claim. Coverage varies by insurer — contact us with your claim information and we will walk you through what applies before your first visit.
After a stroke, communication and swallowing are two of the most commonly affected areas.
We provide post-stroke therapy on an outpatient, in-clinic basis — typically for patients discharged from hospital rehabilitation who are continuing their recovery. Referrals from hospitals, family physicians, and insurance-funded care teams are welcome. We do not offer home visits for post-stroke care at this time.

KickStart provides therapy to refugees and protected persons covered under Canada’s Interim Federal Health Program. It is an active part of our adult practice.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE Adults covered under a current IFH certificate, seeking speech or swallowing therapy.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING TO YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT
Doctor’s referral required: IFH-funded therapy cannot begin without a referral and valid IFH coverage. If you are unsure whether your coverage applies, contact our clinic and we will walk you through it.
HOW TO START Contact our clinic — our front desk will confirm the documentation needed, which services are covered under your IFH certificate, and book your first assessment.
Call us to schedule an appointment. Reach us at 905-792-1626 and we will book a time that works for you — for a brief initial conversation or directly for an assessment, whichever you prefer.
Book your assessment. If therapy is the right fit, we schedule a formal assessment to understand your history, current difficulties, and goals.
Receive your therapy plan. You leave the assessment with a clear plan — number of sessions, approach, and next steps.
A doctor’s referral is not required for speech, swallowing, MVA, or post-stroke services. It is required for IFH / refugee-funded therapy.
Do I need a doctor’s referral to start therapy? No referral is needed for speech, swallowing, MVA, or post-stroke services. A referral is required only for IFH / refugee-funded therapy.
How many sessions will I need? It depends on your assessment findings and goals. After your first assessment you will receive a recommended plan with a session range and frequency. Plans are reviewed regularly so they adjust as your needs change.
Is therapy covered by insurance? Coverage varies. Many private insurance plans cover speech-language therapy; MVA claims are often handled directly with your auto insurer; IFH covers eligible refugees and protected persons. Contact us with your coverage details and we will confirm what applies.
Do you treat adults at both Brampton and Mississauga? Yes — adult services are available at all KickStart Therapy locations.
Can I come in just to ask questions first? Yes. Call us at 905-792-1626 to schedule a brief initial conversation before any assessment is booked.
